Perched on a rocky hillside framed by mature forest, the Pine Ledge landscape blends natural drama with quiet refinement. Working within the natural contours of the land, we are creating a series of garden rooms and destination spaces connected by winding grass paths and soft, textural plantings among boulder retaining walls, natural ledge outcroppings, and cascading waterfalls. Each zone reveals a distinct experience — from a granite-lined swimming pond and fire terrace carved into the rock, to shaded woodland trails and intimate seating pockets tucked into the hillside.
Our approach celebrates the raw beauty of the site while shaping it into a livable landscape — one that feels timeless, grounded, and deeply connected to the spirit of Mount Desert Island.
Natural swimming pond embraced by granite outcrops and woodland plantings
Terraced ledge garden with blueberry and fern sod, moss pockets, and sweeping grass paths
Arrival sequence with native stone paving, layered shrubs, and seasonal color
Sculptural boulder seating and fire terrace carved into exposed granite
Park style woodland trail leading through the old quarry pockets, and mossy meadows
Deer-resistant planting palette emphasizing structure, texture, and low maintenance
Strategic clearing and view management to frame the natural swimming pond and woodland understory
The resulting landscape feels timeless and grounded—where crafted stonework, native soils and plant communities, and intimate moments on the property work together to celebrate the rugged beauty of Hall Quarry.
This project reflects our design philosophy: elevate what already exists, protect what makes a site special, and create spaces that feel as though they’ve always belonged here.
